Gogebic, Houghton and Ontonagon Counties of
the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan have
been designated as the North Country
Renaissance Zone. Twenty such areas
have been created throughout the State of
Michigan attracting new business investment
and creating jobs in the regions they serve.
Renaissance Zones are regions that have been
designated by the state to be TAX FREE for
any business currently in or moving into the
site.
TAX FREE INCENTIVES
The tax free incentives in the North Country
Renaissance Zones are:

Michigan Personal Income Tax
(Residential Zones)

Michigan State Education Tax
-
Local Personal Property Tax
-
Local Real Property Tax
-
Local Real Income Tax
These incentives have been in place since
1997 and will continue until 2009. After
that taxes will be applied and increase 25%
each year until 2012 where they will resume
normal tax status.
TIME EXTENSION DETAILS
A new
project or expansion will be the catalyst
for a time extension for an existing
Renaissance Zone. These time
extensions will be effective the year
following designation starting January 1.
Time extensions cannot exceed 15 years from
the date of application to the Michigan

still available in each of the three
counties in North Country Renaissance Zone.
